Athlete is comprised of childhood friends Carey Willets, Joel Pott, Steve Roberts and Tim Wanstall from Deptford, South London. The band first attracted attention with their Mercury Award nominated debut album, Vehicles and Animals, and attracted critical acclaim with their second album, Tourist.

Following the release of their fourth studio album, Black Swan, Athlete have announced a seven date UK tour in November and December.
